OT AUSTRALIA NSW

Leadership

Members are encouraged to accept short-term or long-term leadership roles within OT AUSTRALIA NSW.

Focus Group Leadership
Members can participate in leadership activities in focus group office-bearer roles such as chairperson, secretary and treasurer.

OT AUSTRALIA NSW Board Leadership
OT AUSTRALIA NSW Board elections are held annually for half of the Board of Directors. The term of office is two years. If there are more nominations than positions available a ballot is conducted. If there are insufficient nominations, the Board may appoint a person to fill the ‘casual’ vacancy. Members can also lead or participate in various working parties, advisory groups or committees established from time to time by the Board.

OT AUSTRALIA National Council Leadership
The State Elected Councillor is elected every four years and represents the OT AUSTRALIA NSW Board at the bi-annual OT AUSTRALIA National meetings, together with President of OT AUSTRALIA NSW. Full members of OT AUSTRALIA NSW are also eligible to nominate for other National leadership roles. This may include working parties, committees and representative positions.

Becoming Involved

Involvement in Association leadership provides members with the opportunity to both build on existing skills and learn new skills. Skills development can occur in both formal and informal settings and often includes:

  • Governance issues and responsibilities
  • Managing change
  • Strategic planning
  • Organisational management
  • Meeting procedure
  • Financial management
  • Program planning
  • Effective leadership
  • Lobbying and representation
  • Enhanced decision making

Being an involved member also provides you with the opportunity to participate in and influence the occupational therapy political environment.

Members involved in the Board of Directors, focus groups, working groups and committees have great networking opportunities on a regular basis.

Focus group meeting dates are advertised regularly in the Occupational Therapist newsletter and on the OT AUSTRALIA NSW website. Each focus group has an annual general meeting at which elections for office bearers are conducted.

The Call for Nominations for Board positions is advertised in the Occupational Therapist newsletter and further information (including the nomination form) is available here. The newsletter also has up-to-date information about representative roles, working party formation and committee vacancies.

Every two years members can indicate their interest in being contacted directly by OT AUSTRALIA NSW about representative, working party and mentoring roles by joining the OT AUSTRALIA NSW Reference Group.
